IDENTIFIKASI ASAM RETINOAT PADA KRIM KOSMETIK WAJAH YANG DIJUAL DI PASAR RAME MEDAN

Cosmetics have became a part of the primary needs of most of people.
But unfortunately, many of the manufacturers are not concerned about the health
of consumers by ignoring the quality. It means, many products on the market
currently contains some substances that prohibited for cosmetic, which one of
them is retinoic acid.
The objective of this research was to determine whether there were
forhidden chemicals contained in the facial cosmetic cream that are sold in Pasar
Rame Medan.
The type of the research was descriptive with qualitative analysis by thin
layer chromatography.
The result of the research, on the sample X cream was not detected violet
spot when observed under UV light and average Rf of sample X cream was 0, 59
while average Rf of comparator was 0.46. Average Rf of sample Y cream was
0.54 while average Rf of comparator was 0.52 and violet spot detected on
sample Y cream when observed under UV light. Violet spot was not detected on
sample Z cream when observed under UV light and average Rf of sample Z
cream was 0.58 while average Rf of comparator was 0.48.
The conclusions of this qualitative thin layer chromatography research
was one of the three samples of cosmetics sold in Pasar Rame Medan are
positive containing the retinoic acid.
