Abstract
Problem early initiation of breastfeeding rate in Indonesia increased from 51.8% in 2017 and
71.34% in 2019. Despite the increase, that figure is still far from the target, of 90 percent.
(Profile of health Republic of Indonesia, 2017). Based on the survey, which has with
breastfeeding mothers regarding early initiation of breastfeeding in Tanjung Tongah Village In
Pematangsiantar city, from 123 breastfeeding mothers, 70% had never received information
about early initiation of breastfeeding and had not done early initiation of breastfeeding.
Objective was to describe the knowledge of pregnant women in the third trimester about the
early initiation of breastfeeding in Tanjung Tongah Village, Pematangsiantar City.
Research method was descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The analysis uses univariate
analysis to describe knowledge about the early initiation of breastfeeding. The study population
was pregnant women in the third trimester of Tanjung Tongah Village. The research sample
was the entire population of pregnant women in Tanjung Tongah Village in the third trimester
of April to October 2019 was 45 respondents. The instrument used a questionnaire of
knowledge about the early initiation of breastfeeding.
Results showed that the small of respondents 2.2% and 15.65% were less than 20 years old and
more than 35 years old, and most of the respondents, 86.7% were housewives. Most of the 32
respondents (71.7%) had less knowledge about the early initiation of breastfeeding. And almost
half of the respondents, 13 respondents (28.9%), had good knowledge about the early initiation
of breastfeeding.
Conclusion most of the 32 respondents (71.7%) had less knowledge about the early initiation
of breastfeeding. And almost half of the respondents, the 13 respondents (28.9%), had good
knowledge about the early initiation of breastfeeding.
