Background: During the third trimester of pregnancy, women frequently
experience low back pain due to postural changes and increasing fetal weight. In
Indonesia, the prevalence of pregnancy-related low back pain ranges from 60% to
80%. Without appropriate management, this condition may progress to chronic
postpartum pain. Continuity of Care midwifery services support maternal and fetal
health throughout pregnancy while enabling early identification and prevention of
pregnancy- and childbirth-related complications through the postpartum period.
Objective: To provide comprehensive Continuity of Care midwifery services for
Mrs. A during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, and
family planning.
Methods: This study employed a case study design using a Continuity of Care
midwifery approach with documentation based on the SOAP method.
Results : Mrs. A, a 35-year-old woman (G3P2A0), attended four antenatal care
visits. Her primary complaint during pregnancy was low back pain, which was
successfully managed. She experienced a normal vaginal delivery complicated by
a second-degree perineal laceration, which was repaired with suturing. Four
postpartum visits were completed without complications. The newborn weighed
3,500 g and measured 50 cm in length and received exclusive breastfeeding. By
29 days of age, the infant had gained 500 g in body weight. The mother planned to
use the 3-month injectable contraceptive for postpartum family planning.
Conclusion : Continuity of Care midwifery services had a positive impact on both
maternal and neonatal health. Mothers are encouraged to bring their infants to
healthcare facilities for routine immunization and to continue providing exclusive
breastfeeding.
