Abstract
Background: Low back pain is a common complaint during the third trimester of
pregnancy, affecting approximately 60–80% of pregnant women in Indonesia.
Among women in the third trimester, 20% experience mild pain, 50% moderate
pain, and 30% severe pain. Continuity of Care (COC) is a comprehensive
approach that provides continuous midwifery care from pregnancy through
childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, and family planning. This study
aimed to provide comprehensive midwifery care for Mrs. P throughout pregnancy,
childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, and family planning.
Methods: This study employed a case study design using a comprehensive
midwifery management approach with Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and
Planning (SOAP) documentation.
Results: Mrs. P, a 24-year-old gravida, underwent four antenatal care visits.
During pregnancy, she experienced low back pain, which was successfully
managed with warm compresses applied to the lumbar region. Labor progressed
normally without complications. Three postpartum follow-up visits were
conducted, and no postpartum complications were identified. The newborn was
delivered spontaneously with a birth weight of 2,900 g, a birth length of 48 cm,
and an APGAR score of 9/10. The infant was male, received exclusive
breastfeeding, and demonstrated appropriate weight gain during the first 18 days
of life. The mother planned to use the 3-month injectable contraceptive as her
family planning method.
Conclusion: Comprehensive Continuity of Care (COC) provided from pregnancy
through family planning had a positive impact on maternal and neonatal health
outcomes. Mothers are encouraged to attend regular Posyandu visits for infant
growth monitoring, immunization services, and continued support for exclusive
breastfeeding.
