Abstract

Background: Continuity of Care (CoC) in midwifery is a continuous service
provided from pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, to family planning
to improve maternal and infant health. Common third-trimester discomforts include
back pain, affecting an estimated 60–85% of pregnant women worldwide.
Psychological disorders during pregnancy may also adversely affect fetal
development and increase the risk of childbirth complications (Indrayani, 2020).
Objective: To implement comprehensive Continuity of Care midwifery services
for Mrs. A during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and family
planning.
Method: This case study applied Continuity of Care midwifery services using the
SOAP midwifery,management,approach.
Results: Mrs. A, a 26-year-old G1P0A0, received four antenatal visits with the
main complaint of back pain. She had a spontaneous delivery at 40 weeks of
gestation with normal stages I–IV and a second-degree perineal laceration repaired
using interrupted sutures. Postpartum care continued until 42 days, with the main
complaint of breast engorgement. After breast care, the mother reported smooth
breastfeeding at the third postpartum visit. The baby was born spontaneously,
weighing 3,200 g, measuring 48 cm in length, with an APGAR score of 9–10. The
newborn received early breastfeeding initiation (EBI), eye ointment, vitamin K
injection, and HB0 and BCG immunizations. The infant gained 350 g within 13
days. After family planning counseling, the mother chose the 3-month injectable
contraceptive.
Conclusion and Recommendation: The Continuity of Care provided complied
with midwifery care standards and contributed to improving maternal and infant
health. Future pregnancies are expected to pay greater attention to physical activity
patterns and nutritional intake during pregnancy.
