Abstract
Background: Pregnancy is a physiological process that causes various physical and
psychological changes, including weight gain, postural changes, low back pain,
sleep disturbances, and other discomforts that may affect maternal quality of life.
Low back pain during the third trimester is one of the most common complaints,
resulting from changes in the body's center of gravity and uterine enlargement. In
addition, pregnant women may experience skin disorders such as pruritus caused
by hormonal changes and skin stretching during pregnancy. These conditions
require continuous monitoring and comprehensive midwifery care to maintain
optimal maternal and fetal health. This study aimed to provide comprehensive
midwifery care for Mrs. R throughout pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period,
newborn care, and family planning.
Methods: This study employed a case study design using a continuity of midwifery
care approach. Midwifery care was continuously documented using the Subjective,
Objective, Assessment, and Plan (SOAP) framework.
Results: Mrs. R, aged 34 years, received comprehensive midwifery care throughout
pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, and family planning.
Her pregnancy-related complaints were successfully managed during antenatal
care. She experienced a normal vaginal delivery complicated by a second-degree
perineal laceration, which was managed with appropriate suturing. The postpartum
period progressed normally without complications. No health problems were
identified in the newborn. Following family planning counselling, Mrs. R chose to
become a three-month injectable contraceptive (Triclofem) acceptor.
Conclusion: Continuity of Care successfully supported comprehensive midwifery
care from pregnancy through childbirth, the postpartum period, newborn care, and
family planning. This approach facilitated optimal monitoring of maternal and
neonatal health and contributed to the prevention of pregnancy-and childbirth
related complications
